Australia Post - Connecting Youth to Opportunity Week, April 2002.
An annual event, Connecting Youth to Opportunity Week aims to provide sporting, learning and cultural opportunities to youth across the State, especially those in rural areas.
As part of our Company mission to support the communities in which we operate, PocketMail was proud to be given the opportunity to be a sponsor of Connecting Youth to Opportunity Week.
By way of a prize donation of 5 PocketMail Composers, PocketMail is now helping rural youths stay in touch with their families and peers. Perfect for use in remote areas, the Composers were given to youths whose photos were shot at their local Australia Post outlet and published in their local paper.
Run by Australia Post Queensland, in conjunction with Queensland Country Life Newsapapers, the week entailed a variety of activities designed to give rural youth the same opportunities as those experienced by city youth.
Activities included a tour by the Broncos Development Team, who held football-coaching clinics throughout South West Queensland. A silent auction for sporting memorabilia was also held, with the money raised being donated back into the community in which the successful bidder resided.
Other activities included a performance by the Bell Shakespeare Theatre Company, the only performance this year to be hosted in a rural community and the Read Around Australia program, hoping to make reading a fun and affordable experience by offering half priced books to all Australian Primary School children on their birthday.
PocketMail recognises the importance of youth and the barriers of isolation in remote communities and hopes to have more opportunities such as this in the future, to help keep our rural communities in touch. |
