Day 216
Day 216 finds us in St. Petersburg, FL right outside Tampa, and up to 7261.2 miles!
My final weekend in New Orleans, LA went on another airboat swamp tour and what an adventure! They caught an almost 4 ft. gator and brought onto the boat and also a neuter rat! Got my picture taken holding the gator & rat so thankful I wasn't wearing my fish {gator bait} shorts like last time! Ha!
Due to breaking stories {i.e. child kidnappings, school shooting & police officer that abducted his wife} promises to air in New Orleans never happened. Due to short time frames I am able to stay these "breaking news" stories can hamper my ability to get media attention.
Headed out to Pensacola, FL and stayed at a great KOA right on the Bay with a nice pier, etc. An old highschool friend, Kim, lives there & she cooked a Mexican Food Feast fit for a king! Pitched the media and promises were made to film but more breaking stories and we did not get anything which was really sad knowing PKD people there were not reached.
My neighbor at the RV park's friend has PKD so he took down the number off the side of the RV - so helped someone by stopping there anyway.
Left Pensacola heading to Tampa and noticed on the map that I would pass by some RV buddies place I met in Indiana. Linda Wheeler was the lady that did a benefit concert for me in the Indiana RV park to help raise money for my travels. We stopped in and were welcomed with open arms into their "hidden paradise" near Lake City, FL. Linda took me on a tour of the property on her golf cart and Max ran along side getting lots of exercise. We learned about and did see a "gopher turtle" which lives in holes in the ground with NO WATER anywhere nearby! We "boon docked" which means there is no power or water but with this RV we just turned on the generator and slept with the AC on... I love living in a RV!
We said our farewells and headed out for Tampa, FL. The weather was beautiful and hot but other than high winds the trip was uneventful thanks to having this new loaner Coachmen RV.
The KOA is beautiful and I can see the water out my front window. Pitched the Tampa media yesterday and contacted local PKD people. Got a couple of leads with the media so hope we are successful! Local Tampa PKD Friends Group is holding a meeting Saturday I hope to attend. Scheduled to leave that morning but will try to make the meeting before we hit the road again?
Stayed real busy on e-mail, paperwork, reports for sponsors, etc. so hope I get done so I can explore this beautiful area?
There is about 1 month until the PKD Conf. in D.C., which will end this leg of the PKD Road Warrior tour. My hopes are that all of you have raised lots of money for research by getting pledges for each mile we drive and that the PKD Foundation, Coachmen and other sponsors will continue to support my crusade and I will be able to continue to travel to reach those with PKD. So, if you have time drop a note to the PKD Foundation, Coachmen and KOA asking for their continued support so that others will have the luxury of knowing of the Foundation and will "no longer be alone..." They deserve it because they suffer enough at the mercy of PKD so should not have to suffer alone...
Hope to see all of you at the conference in DC June 22-24. Until then get out & get some pledges to make each mile get us closer to the cure!
