Day 100 we are still in San Diego.
We were scheduled to depart on Jan. 14, However, with my health issues I decided I must delay departure to rest before I start on the big cross-country trip. Once we hit the road there will be little time to rest to be had, with only a few days in each location...
Good news is that day-by-day I am getting stronger. My UTI is completely gone and I caught it before it hit my kidneys! My back is still troubling me when I bend and I had hoped to continue Chiropractic appts. and/or get to a doctor to see if, in fact, this pain is "referred pain" from my massive kidneys - but my finances prevent me from pursuing that avenue. Daily trips to the Jacuzzi and easy swims seem to be helping a lot so I think I will get better with some rest so be assured the PKD Road Warriors will roll again! Just need a little time.
For those following my itinerary, this delay could throw off dates. However, I feel confident that over the course of the cross-country trip I may get back on schedule due to the fact that I may not obtain media in all cities scheduled to stop in.
No TV or print media was obtained in San Diego despite my efforts. Ran into a TV crew while out hearing some blues and could not pass the opportunity to ask for their help. New contacts were obtained and pitched - but still no luck. Sorry San Diego PKD patients but without the assistance of the media our goal of reaching you can't be accomplished…
In spite of the lack of interest by the San Diego media lots of media has still been obtained in other print publications & web sites! In summary, media obtained since I last updated you are:
Magazines
RV Trade Digest, Friction Zone Motorcycle, RV Business, Coachmen COA Employee Mag., Coachmen Capers Int'l. RV Club Mag., Woman Rider Motorcycle Mag., Friction Zone Motorcycle "Back Talk" Section, Motorhome RV Mag.,
Web Sites
Motorhome Magazine (www.motorhomemagazine.com/newsdesk) & (www.rv.net); Incredible People Feature Article (to post soon) (www.incrediblepeopl.com); Motorcycle World (www.motorcycleworld.com/riding/safe/default.com); (Newspaper) - Malibu Times (Malibu, CA) - Hope to find a celebrity spokesperson off this one!
Newsletters
Seattle,WA (PKRF Friends); Pittsburgh, PA (PKRF Friends)
TV
Pepperdine University TV-3 (Malibu, CA) - Hope celebrity will see out spot. They also took my PSA commercial and offered to air once a week!
The above media obtained gained valuable exposure to a potential 9,368,000! Recently, I went back and obtained all the potential viewers, circulation of papers, etc. and pulled together all the numbers to see how many potential people I have reached on the PKD Road Warrior media tour. I am happy to say that we have possibly reached 10,078,925! In addition, there are some very exciting media opportunities pending at this time for a total of over 1,294,016! Once I totaled the numbers I was even surprised!
At this time, I have firm commitments from a San Bernardino paper, which I will stop in as I leave California and an interview is pending with a Texas newspaper that may result in my story being syndicated across the USA! No promises but the possibility is there so cross your fingers. There are too many upcoming media to discuss in this update so be sure to remember to go check out the "press" section of the web site for updates… Press mentioned above will be updated soon; however, I am just submitting it to the web master to post at his convenience.
Max and I are working hard to get on the road, however, just this week we experienced a severe problem with my teeth so until I have my appointment with another specialist my departure date from San Diego is scheduled for beginning of February? Between my back going for unknown reasons, my UTI infection, and now my teeth - we are having a rough go of it but we will be rolling soon!
Financially, these health set backs have been devastating and now the rear brakes are gone on my Nissan truck! These are the times when I truly wish "money did grow on trees…" Rest assured that regardless of all these set backs we are trying our very hardest to get on the road and reach those suffering with PKD! If anyone knows a mechanic in the San Diego area that could help with brake repair please contact me soon! Thanks! Hope all of you are out there raising lots of money for every mile I am driving! Together we can raise the money needed - we just have to try!
