Day 191

Day 191 brings us to 6098.6 and Beaumont, Tx (my birthplace) just in time for Easter with my family.

We had a nice Easter with many attending. Seeing family after being on the "open road" alone is always nice. I babysat my 2 yr. old niece, Mikala, which was a true joy for this childless PKD Road Warrior. She made my life easy by being the "perfect child" all day. I think she babysat me? Ha!

Seeing my father, who suffers greatly from PKD makes me more determined to continue my travels - to stop the suffering, more than ever! Happy to say, we were successful in my home town getting the Beaumont Enterpise Easter Sunday paper & airing on ABC 4/17 - CBS 4/21 {2 spots for over 9 minutes!} - and NBC will air 4/24. I got all the media in town so many were reached no matter which channel or paper they read! I wish we could do that in every town so my job would be easier... I got several calls from local PKD people off my media and the stories were sad. ABC-Waco,TX spot was great and we got our first "Front Page" story in the Waco Tribune Herald which was exciting! Wonder if any of my college buddies saw my story? Ha! The KOA there was real nice & the owners the same! I am sorry to say that the ABC-Dallas TV spot was lost due to the "china plane" incident & my contact having to leave town while I was there. A promise to air next time I come by was made which was good. I could not wait until he returned due to my tight travel schedule & upcoming "photo shoot" appointment. Leaving Dallas without reaching PKD people was very sad. I am sorry for the delay on updating you, however, with all the Beaumont media & reports for sponsors, etc.

I have been so very busy. I spent 7 hours in a video production studio copying TV media and got tired making copies of all the print media & did so many e-mails I could never count! I was wondering if I could continue? But I keep trudging on because there are still many with PKD to reach.. I worked till the wee morning hours trying to rebuild all data lost on my lap top when it blew - before reports could be sent, etc. I survived, barely, just in time to leave for Baton Rouge, LA tomorrow. Once again we will be on the "open road" driving more miles closer to the cure! We now have a radio PSA that my dear friend, David, of Cutting Edge Music in Austin, Tx made for us that we hope to get aired through a friend in Baton Rouge. She works at a radio station that owns 8 more so wish us luck! Next stop will be New Orleans where ABC had promised, last year, to air my story? A little relaxation will be had at the Jazz & Heritage Fest and when meeting up with friends from all over USA. I am very tired so looking forward to it!

Max has been feeling a little ill past few days but seems better today. I get real scared when he is sick because he is all I have on the open road. Vet bills are expensive and I am terrified he will get ill & I can not care for him on my limited income. I am watching him very closely hoping he gets better tomorrow. If not we will be at the Vet. soon - no matter what it costs! It is late and time to rest.

I will close with exciting news! To date, the PKD Road Warrior tour has reached over 21 Million people with over 37 Million pending in upcoming months! And, with 2 months till the PKD Conference in June where this leg of the tour ends. I hope to see all of you at the Conference June 22-24 in Washington, DC! Until then - get out and get those pledges & make every mile we drive bring us closer to the cure for PKD!

Also, please make note of my new website at www.pkdawareness.com where "travel updates" & "mileage" will now be posted in a timely manner -thanks to Host-Island.com. This site will replace my "driveathon.org" site which was not being updated so that you can travel along with Max and I.
