The Santa Cruz NBG Fest is one of the world's largest events for cross-country and trans-coastal cyclists and will draw cyclists from all over the US.
Biography for Gary Morris
How did you find out about NBG and why you want to do this ride? Saw posting on the UPenn Bike Newsgroup.
Lived in Washington area 20+ years, & love what they're doing to enable recreational riding. I am an advocate for the East Coast Greenway, and believe the NBG is likewise a wonderful plan to enrich our nation spiritually, physically, and emotionally.
Touring experience: Slight. I've done Michigan to Maryland, Washington to Virginia Tech, and a couple centuries.
Tell us about your bike: Off-the-shelf TREK 730 with strengthened drive train.
Tell us about your bike: Weekly training ride with the Philly Bike Club, and weekend jaunts with them.
How many miles do you ride a year? About 3,000. I don't log it.
Are you car free or interested? Car-free since July of last year. It's working out even better than I hoped. The key is my Bykaboose trailer for grocery shopping.
How are you making time for this event? I'm retired (from federal service) and a doctoral candidate at University of
Pennsylvania. May 3 is the last day of finals here at Penn.
How many miles do you plan to ride in 2002? 3,000 to 4,000.
What are your fears about doing this ride? My knees sometimes get cranky about long rides.
Do you have any special skills? Not on a bike. I'm a carpenter and a computer guy.
