About PocketMail’s Technology

At the core of PocketMail is a system for communicating data between a remote device and a messaging server over telephone lines using acoustical tones corresponding to the data being communicated.

PocketMail utilizes a variety of technologies including digital signal processing, modulation schemes, error detection and correction, and data compression.

The remote device can be acoustically coupled with a telephone or directly connected or integrated with a telephone.

In essence what makes PocketMail unique is the ability to have reliable mobile data communication utilizing regular telephone networks. This is important for anyone traveling where there is no wireless coverage or anyone wanting data communication utilizing existing wireless voice services.

The Company owns 10 U.S. patents on its technology, a number of which are also registered outside of the U.S. The patents cover both the systems for communicating data, as well as some of the specialist acoustic design aspects.

The titles of the patents are:

  • Electronic Communications System and Method
  • Method and Apparatus for Wireless Communication of Digital Data
  • Messaging Communication Protocol
  • Electronic, Acoustical Tone Generating Communications System and Method;
  • System and Method for Providing User Feedback to Couple an Electronic Device with A Telephone Headset;
  • Coupler for an Acoustic Coupled Communications Device;
  • Coupler for a Communications Device
  • Messaging Communication Protocol (update);
  • System and Method for Communicating Electronic Messages Over A Telephone Network Using Acoustic Coupling; and
