Top FAQs: Using the PocketMail BackFlip for Palm

Which Palm devices are compatible with the PocketMail BackFlip?

The PocketMail BackFlip is compatible with the PalmPilot Professional, Palm III series, Palm V series(Palm V adapter required), or Palm VII series, and in general is compatible with Palm OS devices with Palm III serial ports and configurations such as the IBM WorkPad®, TRG Pro and HandEra 330. Software updates from the vendor and PocketMail Inc. may be required in some cases.

How much mail can I receive with my PocketMail® BackFlip?

The available memory space varies depending on your choice of PalmOS device and usage patterns. The following are examples of some of the device capacities:
Model Memory capacity: Palm Professional (960kb) Palm III 2mb (1952k) Palm IIIe 2mb (1952k) Palm IIIx 4mb (3968k) IBM Workpad 20X 2mb (1952k) IBM Workpad 30X 4mb (3968k)

An average 500 character message takes up 575-600 bytes including subject line and the e-mail headers.

Your results may vary depending on your other Palm programs. If you have 2000 entries in your address book, this reduces the available space for other applications.

PocketMail® provides a host of tools to help manage your mail. We offer Message Title Preview, Message Body Preview, Mailbox Consolidation , and a Rolling Mailbox features. You can also limit the number of characters downloaded in each message to save space. If you need the full text and attachments, you may use any POP3 or IMAP client.

I have a problem with my PocketMail program. When I hit the icon on my Palm I get "PocketMail BackFlip (TM) device is not responding-displaying partial info." What does this mean and how do I correct it?

Below we have listed some helpful steps that may be of assistance in resolving this matter:
  1. Replace Batteries(perform this step before moving on)
  2. What Palm Hardware type do you own? Some devices require the most recent version of PocketMail software to work properly
  3. Check the connection between the BackFlip and Palm.
  4. Do you have a program that may conflict with PocketMail's software? Known examples are: IRLink by IScomplete and the GoType keyboard
  5. Do you have the Hotsync settings to "Hotsync" and "PocketMail?" To check this, go to Prefs from the Palm's main menu, select "Buttons" from the drop menu at the top right. Then click on the Hotsync button at the lower right hand side of the screen. Verify the settings. Cradle should be: Hotsync, Modem should be: PocketMail
  6. Verify that the Palm's memory is not full.
