Windowslink - Time Out Requesting Resend

If you receive this message, it will usually be when you are importing information from the PC to the device. This error message means that the computer cannot see the device at all. It can't make a connection between the device and the pc. This usually means one of five things:
  1. The device has not been placed in "ready to receive instructions from PC" mode.
If this has happened, go into "PC Link" on the device, check the baud rate is correct and then highlight "start" and press the enter button on the device.

  2. The cord is not plugged into the device correctly.
If this happens, try plugging the cord back in. Then press retry on the PC and try again.

  3. The cord is not plugged into the computer correctly.
If this happens, try plugging the cord in to the back of the computer again. Then press retry on the PC and try again.

  4. The incorrect COM port is selected.
Go into "Synch options" on the PC and check that the COM port is correct. If there are 2 options available (e.g. COM1 and COM2) try the one that is not selected and see if that works. Once you have selected the COM port, press ok and then try again.

  5. The COM port maybe in use by another program or piece of hardware.
It is quite possible that there are other programs running on the computer that may be interfering with the communication between the PocketMail Device and the PC. Try and see if there are any programs clearly visible that are running and shut these down. Once you have done that, try to synchronise again. If this hasn't worked, and you are sure it is the correct COM port, press "ctrl+alt+del" and u should be able to see a list of tasks or programs running. Try and end as many of these tasks as possible. Make sure that you do not "end task" on explorer.exe or winlink.exe. Both of these are vital to being able to synchronize. Then try and synchronize again. If this still doesn't work, it will most likely be hardware installed in your system that is interrupting the transmission. The easiest way to get around this is to try and plug the serial PC link cable into another COM port available on the computer and try changing the COM port in the synchronise options.
